The spread of CWD and Bovine TB are prompting Michigan Department of Natural Resources to ban baiting and feeding of deer in 2019. Food plots are still legal as they are considered agricultural practices. The baiting of deer promotes groups of deer to gather in an unnatural way. Deer in groups have higher risk of nose to nose contact which spreads disease. Will this change in regulations lead to a healthier deer population? Or will it cause less deer to be taken during the season leading to over population? Only time will tell for the Michigan DNR.
