Three Colorado wildlife refuges open to elk hunting this year. Hunters who have an elk license valid GMU’s 80 or 83 and wish to hunt the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge or the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge must submit an application to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife via email to montevista.wildlife@state.co.us between the dates of August 8th and August 12th. Hunters who wish to hunt the Baca National Wildlife Refuge do not need an access permit. They must, however, hold a valid public land elk license for GMU 82. Private land only elk licenses will not be valid for use on the Baca Refuge.

You can find more information for hunting any of these three refuges here.

What are your thoughts on opening up more wildlife refuges to hunting?
