POACHER GETS EATEN BY LIONS – Recently we have reported on several poaching incidents across the country.  This article expands past the oceans.  Recently, a man was eaten by lions in South Africa’s Kruger National Park.  The only thing the lion pride left was the man’s head.

The Incident

Similar to National Parks in the United States, hunting is prohibited in the park.  When the incident was first reported, authorities reported that it was a park employee.  After further investigation into the incident, it was determined that the man was a poacher.  Authorities found a hunting rifle near by the man’s head.  This area of the park was also a private game park, which was home to many trophy animals.

Moatshe Ngoepe, of the Limpopo Police, stated the following related to the incident:

“It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions.”  Ngoepe added, “They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains.”

Victim’s Identity

Although the head remained, the authorities have not been able to identify the man.  The lions mauled the man ferociously prior to eating him.

Ngoepe said, “The process of identifying the deceased has already commenced, and it might be made possible by the fact that his head is amongst the remains that were found at the scene.”

African Poaching

This isn’t the first incident of poaching in Africa, and it won’t be the last.  Earlier this year, a rhino hunter was killed by an elephant.  Obviously the elephant didn’t eat the man.  However, he was eaten shortly after by a pride of lions.  Poaching in Africa, similar to the United States, is becoming a large problem.  The money offered for the animals entices people to take the risk.  That is not a good excuse, but it’s the truth behind most poaching.  Regardless of what country that’s in.
