At local check stations in Montana the reported number of hunters harvests are down. Whitetail and elk numbers were down, while mule deer bucks were up. Hunters drive through 1 of 5 regional check stations to provide officials with a sample of the hunting season. In the spring FWP officials will call and speak with hunters to determine accurate information and are hopeful the numbers will rise.
