Governor Kristi Noem has decided to change venues on the annual Governors Pheasant hunt for 2020.  This hunt is usually held in Pierre, SD.  The hunts main focus has always been to highlight the excellent hunting South Dakota has.

The move to Sioux Falls will include a Vendor Fair, Concert and a hunt in SE South Dakota.

Noem stated “The goal is to introduce more people to everything South Dakota has to offer.  We’re transforming this annual summit into an industry showcase for the nation,”.

Both Pierre and Fort Pierre Chamber of Commerce have expressed their concerns. Dakota Radio Group reports Fort Pierre Chamber general manager Shane Kramme says while they understand the possibilities a larger venue can offer, moving the hunt will have detrimental short and long term effects on the area. He says the hunt has been successful because of the support it gets from both communities and the surrounding region.

If you have spent time in South Dakota, you would probably agree Sioux Falls doesn’t scream for the outdoorsman to come to visit.

What are your thoughts on the Annual Hunt moving to Sioux Falls?  How do you think this will affect the Pierre Economy?
