The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is looking for information regarding the illegal killing of a buck mule deer in Iron County.

On the morning of Feb. 20th, a DWR officer located the dead buck while patroling Iron County. The buck’s body was found near Bench Road in between the towns of New Castle and Enterprise.

Once the body was found the officer called for another officer to join him and they began their investigation. During the investigation, the officers found that the deer’s head had been removed but no attempt was made to take any of the meat from the buck. The officers felt that the deer was most likely shot on Feb. 17th or 18th.

“Waste of wildlife is a serious crime. Many people hunt specifically to use the meat to feed their family, so when one person completely wastes the meat like this, it is a huge loss to all hunters and wildlife enthusiasts.” – DWR Conservation Officer Josh Carver

Because of the lack of evidence found at the scene the DWR is asking for the public to help in gathering information. If anyone was in the area around those dates and heard or saw anything please contact the DWR.

You can report information in one of the following ways:

  • Online through the DWR website by clicking here. however, contact with an officer may be limited with this option.
  • The UTDWR Law Enforcement app.
  • By texting 847411 on your mobile phone.
  • Or, by calling the UTiP Hotline at 800-662-3337.

You can also contact Iron County DWR Conservation Officer Josh Carver directly at 435-691-4167. Rewards may be available and requests for confidentiality are respected.
