It looks like there has been another moose attack in Colorado. A man from New Mexico was recently attacked by a bull moose in Winter Park, Colorado. As he was running on the Sundog trail in the early morning. With him were his two dogs both of which were off-leash.
Both of his dogs were running ahead of him by roughly 50 feet. However, the dogs suddenly came running back past him. As he looked ahead he saw a bull moose. The 62-year-old man decided to take just two more steps to see the moose better. As a result of those two steps, the moose decided to attack.
Luckily the only remaining evidence of the attack that was left on the man’s body is a hoof print on the back of his head.
Earlier this month EhuntR covered another moose attack in Colorado. That incident also involved dogs and took place in Glenwood Springs. However, that took place with a cow protecting her two calves. You can read more about this incident you can click here.
CPW District Wildlife Manager Serena Rocksund says that the moose, in this case, was not located afterward.
“This is a good reminder for folks to keep their dogs on leash and give moose plenty of space when recreating outdoors. It’s hard to see around these corners with the thick vegetation on these trails, so having a dog on a short leash here is key.” – Rocksund
In the state of Colorado moose account for more attacks on humans than any other species. While they are fun to look at it, it is important to keep your distance. A bull moose can reach 7 feet tall, weigh over 1,000 pounds and run at 35mph.
Remember that wildlife is wild and can be especially dangerous during breeding seasons or when protecting their young. If you’d like to read more about this incident you can click here.
